Last Thursday, Helen, Mortimer, and I arrived in Keaton Beach, Florida. We had yet to learn what awaited us in terms of a campground. The reviews were few but were favorable. I chose the location primarily because the driving time from Eastpoint, Florida, was within my preferred range of four hours. Lynn, the campground operator, greeted us warmly when we pulled in. Lynn is a charming Southern lady with a Southern accent to match.
As soon as we pulled in, we noticed a vacant campsite within a few yards of the waterfront. We asked Lynn if it was available. “Honey, she said, I’ve been savin’ that campsite for y’all all day!” I couldn’t take a step without smiling.
Campsite number 25 is perfect for water lovers and faces directly into the setting sun, and we have seats on the front row for every one. The two sunsets we have witnessed have been spectacular. Our weather is also excellent, with clear skies and temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s.
Campers here in Old Pavilion Campground came to fish the Gulf waters. The area around the campground has apartments, small beach houses, and campgrounds dedicated to fishermen and women of every stripe. Every morning, we wake to the sound of fishing boats heading for deeper waters in search of a big catch. We have a small pier beside our trailer where Helen and I can drop a line; no license is required. A couple next to us has caught two large Redfish since we arrived.
The only knock on our campground is that the Wi-Fi is weak, and T-Mobile service is spotty at best. I struggled to upload three pictures and finally decided to hang it up until we move to Kissimmee (our next stop). I’m saving my sunset pictures until we get together again, so please come back next week. We’re Easin’ Along.
What a sweet spot you found, right on the waterfront! Although we love our new home in NC, I’ll always miss our sunsets over the bay in Eastpoint. Looks like a nice place to relax for a few days. (And then you’ll be ready for better internet, LOL.)
Good morning, Laurel,
Wow…you’re up early! Thanks for checking in. We were elated when we pulled into this campsite. Except for Coronado, I don’t remember camping this close to a waterfront. I have a picture taken from your home in Florida of a stunning sunset. It resides on my wallpaper. Hope your trip is going well. Have a great week!
Joe, we have passed the sign for Keaton Beach dozens of times, on our annual trek to the Forgotten Coast, but we have never ventured in to take a look. Another curiosity not explored is Steinhatchee, just a few minutes south of where you are. I assume that both are mostly rustic fishing villages since scalloping is popular in those areas. You certainly found the best seat in the house! Enjoy those sunsets. We have had some glorious ones lately.
Hello, Suzanne,
Keaton Beach has one small grocery store, a lovely park on the beach, lots of vacation homes, RV pads, and fishing cabins. That’s it, except for an RV Park and amazing sunsets that we view from our trailer. We drove to Steinhatchee for groceries before we discovered the store here. The town features some large Scallop and bait shrimp processing facilities and a large selection of retail. If you like to drive along the Gulf Coast, it’s worth the effort–pretty without traffic. We made it here from Eastpoint in 3 1/2 hours. Thanks for stopping by! Joe
A perfect seat, indeed!
Ingrid,
We were fortunate to get this campsite. It’s kinda primitive, but the view is incredible. Have a great week! Joe
Great views. We will be with Rod and Sally in Key West next week and should have some good scenery
Hey!
One of these years, we’re going to get a campsite in Key West again, but it’s a tough ticket in the winter. I’m envious! Say hello to Rod, Sally, and Jane for us. Enjoy the sailing–it’s good to hear from you! Joe
Sure looks lovely, Joe, perfect spot. Enjoy! I saw this via Facebook. I’m not why I’m not getting your blogs email notifications anymore. 😒
Good morning, Terri,
Our campsite is about as close to the water as we can get without falling in. The sunsets are amazing. Terri, I looked through my subscriber list and did not see you listed. I’m pretty certain that you were a subscriber through WordPress rather than email. Please subscribe again…please. I think the Jetpack Gremlin got you again. Thanks for checking in. Joe
Location, location, location! Envious, envious, envious! You picked a good one, Joe! Alan and I would be sitting there with a camera to capture the gorgeous sunsets and binoculars to check out the local fishing boats. Enjoy!
Hi!
Keaton Beach is a tiny fishing village on the Gulf Coast. There is NOTHING here except boats, cabins, and fishermen. All that makes it perfect for us. The sunsets are a huge bonus. You and Alan would love it here! Have a great week, Mary. Stay warm up there. Joe
Wow, you guys aced it on this spot. I’m envious of the weather. We just had oe of the worst storms here in N. Ca. Not as bad as S . Ca but still windy(very) and rainy. Thanks for taking us along to enjoy.
Good morning, Christina,
We have camped in places with more frills and amenities, but never this close to water with views of sunsets like this one. My son lives in SoCal and I heard all about the storm. I know California needs rain, but not all at once. Thanks for stopping by and stay dry out there.
That is an absolutely amazing camping spot. How wonderful that it was saved for you. Enjoy your time their. ‘See you’ in Kissimmee!
Hi, Donna,
The campground was packed, but we had the best spot there. It’s good to be lucky! Thanks for checking in!
