We’ve had a lot of rain in East Tennessee this summer. I wish I could send some out west where the rivers are running dry and the earth is parched and hot. Nevertheless, the heavy rainfall has given those of us in the east plenty to cheer about. Sunflowers are brilliant this year and proving beauty for us, and opportunities for the bees.
My tomatoes are thriving. Pictured here is one plant that is nearing eight feet tall and producing fruit in abundance. I love summer treats!
Here’s hoping your summer is going well–we’re Easin’ Along.
Joe, you look like you know what you are doing with that tomato trellis. Enjoy your summer treats.
Suzanne,
My “trellis” is an expandable mop pole. The tomato plant took off, and I scrambled to find something to tie it to. I’ve about reached the limit. The tomatoes have done well in all this rain. Joe
Hi, Joe – This is an awesome WW photo. Both you and your garden look great! Wishing you a joyful August!
Hi, Donna,
My garden is doing very well. I’m doing pretty good myself for a high-mileage vehicle ;-). Hugs! Joe
I LOVE sunflowers, Joe! You have a LOT of rain and I’m glad you are not affected by the devasting flooding in Kentucky. Yes, send us some rain. At least the wildfires are not as bad this summer…yet! Cool down coming our way. We didn’t grow a veg garden this year because of the length of our road trip. Your summer treats look wonderful!
Hey, Terri,
I know how much you love sunflowers and glad you got to see these. We have a nature park across town and they have a sunflower planting every two years. It’s special. Would love to send you some rain. I really feel for the farmers in the west and the Central Valley. Thanks for checking in. Joe
Homegrown, vine-ripened tomatoes are the BEST!! It looks like you’re making the most of your summer at home, Joe. Enjoy those tomatoes this year, because next year, you’ll either have to haul a potted tomato with you or you’ll have to buy them at farmers’ markets in your travels. :-)) Hugs to you and Helen!
Good morning, Laurel,
I love growing tomatoes almost as much as I love eating them–I’m such a wannabe farmer. I also have green peppers that are doing well. I hope your travels are going well. By the way, Farmer’s Markets and Flea Markets are my favorite pastimes on the road. Stay safe out there and stay in touch. Joe
Hi, Joe! When I was young, I accompanied my mom when she walked around town doing errands. Every summer, one tiny house that we passed on our way to the Post Office had dozens of tall, beautiful sunflowers in the yard. Seeing their cheerful faces was always the highlight of the outing for me. Yours are gorgeous! Hugs to you and Helen!
Hi, Mary,
There is a Nature Park on the east side of Knoxville that plants acres of sunflowers every two years and opens the field up to visitors. That is where this photo came from. I do love sunflowers. We had a few around my childhood home and they attracted lots of birds (and bees). Hope your summer is going well. Always great hearing from you. Joe
